ADFC Names New President: Reaffirms its Commitment to Advancing the Common Interests of the Industry

February 13, 2019

NEW YORK (February 13, 2019) – The American Down and Feather Council (ADFC), a division of the Home Fashion Products Association (HFPA), has named Travis Stier as president, effective January 1, 2019.  Stier, of ADFC member company Down Decor, replaces current president David Sweet of Eurasia Feather Co., who has served as ADFC president since 2015.

In his new role as president, Stier is committed to advancing ADFC’s mission of maintaining and improving the quality of down and feather products and advancing the common interests of the industry.  “In the coming years, I look forward to continuing our ongoing efforts on key industry issues, such as labeling  compliance, which ensures the quality of down and feather products and is an important part of monitoring the industry,” said incoming president Stier. “And, by redoubling our efforts on monitoring the down and feather standards on Internet shopping, I hope to make a positive impact on levelling the playing field in the retail industry.” Stier noted that policing of the industry and enforcement are of central importance for the ADFC compliance program and during 2018, ADFC cited two different manufacturers for not being in compliance with its standards.

For more than a decade, ADFC has provided assurance for those who purchase down and feather products with the ADFC Seal of Approval, a mark of quality informing that all natural fill bedding products sold in the United States are labeled correctly and that the quality of the products meets or exceeds strict industry standards, as well as all state and federal requirements for content, cleanliness and compliance. ADFC is also focused on educating both consumers and those involved in the home furnishings industry about the inherent benefits of down and feather bedding. A recent development at the Council, to which Stier alluded, was the relaunching of its website with a refreshed design and informative content for consumers and industry professionals alike.

The ADFC Seal of Approval affirms which products have been manufactured by a member in good standing with ADFC. As an ADFC member, these manufacturers adhere to testing standards set forth by the International Down and Feather Bureau (IDFB) and have their products tested by an IDFB-certified lab to ensure down and feather quality. Furthermore, ADFC members adhere to the Labeling Compliance Program, which establishes strict regulations for the down and feather bedding industry, specifically.
