Down and Feather Label Provides Assurance to Consumers and Retailers
NEW YORK (December 21, 2020) – For more than a decade, the American Down and Feather Council (ADFC) labeling program has helped retailers ensure that any comforter, pillow, or duvet labeled as a down product is at least a 75% down cluster. Looking for the ADFC label and understanding what it means benefits both retailers and consumers alike as consumers continue to shop online during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“People are referencing online product information now more than ever,” said ADFC President Travis Stier. “We have a responsibility to support our members and aid consumers by advocating for down and feather bedding that meets ADFC standards.”
ADFC’s labeling compliance program regularly monitors to correct false or ambiguous language surrounding down feather products. In order to maintain compliance, a product with the ADFC seal must have an accurate label that provides the following details.
- Down to feather ratio
- Specific oxygen number and turbidity level for hypoallergenic concerns
- Species identification
- Fill power
- Fill weight
“Monitoring the quality of products in the market to assure standards are adhered to has always been an important initiative for ADFC.” said ADFC Marketing Communications Chair Brandon Palmer. “There is a rigorous process for ensuring product claims are as consistently accurate as possible, which helps to maintain the integrity of our standards.”
ADFC has also created resources to educate consumers about getting a natural, healthier sleep. This includes ways to help get a more restful sleep during stressful times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and the benefits of down and feather bedding during colder weather.
